Works

2nd place in the “Picture Stories: The Story of an Island” Human Rights Education Picture Book Program   In the world of books, I am free. Until one day, I met a special book…   Books convey knowledge and share emotions. It surpasses physical barriers and leads to the ideas of the world. But when Taiwan was under the rule of Martial Law (1949 – 1987), something as unoffensive as reading was a crime that could be sentenced to imprisonment.    Turning over the Page records this dark past of authoritarianism history with mild and poetic words that drift over dreamy imagery. It utilizes soft and light images to create a delicate and faint emotion, treading lightly through a heavy past. In reminiscent of the surrealism created by Gabriel García Márquez, Olga Tokarczuk, and Salvador Dalí, emerging creators Fang Yin and Fang An lead readers into a fractured time and space, using literary and aesthetic devises to show a side of forbidden history.
