Overview
Tsuan-Ti Chen was born in a small town in central Taiwan during Japanese rule (1895 – 1945). He studied in Japan to become a doctor and was drafted to fight in South-East Asia for Japan in World War II. When his ship was sunk by enemy fire, he was sent to Saigon where he experienced personal pain and the fragility of life in the brutal realities of war. Miraculously, he survived and made his way back home but things were far from peaceful.
Two years after the war, he was selected as one of the leaders to defend his town against the nationalist government’s violent suppression of 228 Incident. Between his personal calling and his family and friends, which should he choose to sacrifice? The Man Returning from Afar portrays how a generation of Taiwanese choose their path of life in a time of turmoil.

Chen-Yu Chang (張辰漁) is the director of World Softest Productions. He is dedicated to developing works that possess Taiwanese and humanist qualities to popularize history. His works include tv series, animation, manga, board games and designs for social purposes. He is promoting Talking about Taiwan, a manga series about Taiwanese history, and Social Affairs, a multimedia series that sarcastically reflects on social realities.
Che-Yu Kuo (阿虎&鹿青/郭哲瑜) is a movie buff who is currently living a life of a slashie, filming documentaries and writing scripts. Through scriptwriting, he feels honored to be able to record stories of Taiwan from the perspective of a Taiwanese.
Yueh-Shen Chuang (莊岳燊) is originally from Taitung and graduated from National Taiwan University with a degree in history. He believes that “stories are a metaphor of life” and hopes to help the public discover the different sides of society.
A-Hsiang (阿鄉) graduated from National Taiwan University of Arts with a degree in Fine Arts. He is currently working as an illustrator for the well-known Taiwanese newspaper United Daily News and has held solo exhibitions in Taiwan.
