BARDON-CHINESE MEDIA AGENCY

AN INTRODUCTION

Bardon-Chinese Media Agency licenses European, USA, and Japanese copyrights in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China.  The agency is an independent company incorporated in Taiwan, owned and managed by (Ms.) Jian-mei Wang, and Phillip C. Chen.

The agency promotes, negotiates and licenses literary rights (Chinese translation and English reprint rights), serializations, permissions, photos, syndication, audio, video, and co-production rights on behalf of its clients in North America, Europe, and Japan.  We have significantly developed the Taiwan copyright market and have ensured copyright holder receive a reliable flow of royalty payments from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China.

Bardon-Chinese Media Agency monitors the local Chinese media markets, trends, and production-related activities of licensees, and collects all payments due.  We research financial solvency, business history, and licensing records of potential licensees.  Our offices use computerized communications equipment and royalty accounting systems.  We charge a royalty commission for each sale made by the agency, which we contract using legally enforceable English language agreements, signed by licensor and licensee.

Chinese copyright markets and protection...

China (PRC) is a signatory to the Berne (Oct. 15, 1992) and UCC (Oct. 31, 1992) copyright conventions.  Taiwan protects translation and reprint rights under a bilateral agreement with the USA and internal law.  As such, there are two main markets for Chinese licenses: Taiwan and China.  Territorial grant is assessed by the agency on licensee's ability to distribute and other applicable market information.

Rights holders without active on-site representation in Chinese media markets have little or no protection therein, are unlikely to solve communications problems, negotiate from a position of strength (or be able to troubleshoot, if necessary), to take advantage of increasingly exciting licensing opportunities.  The Chinese market can only successfully yield rich rewards, if handled by experienced agents.  Bardon-Chinese Media Agency's consistent success has gained the support of a wide range of prominent rights sources by being responsible and arranging deals which pay.  The Agency brings to its clients a young and dedicated team which has emerged in the last 10 years as the major independent specialist Chinese licensing agency.
